I'm disappointed because I thought this was a wind-up watch. But now I realize that the Charles Hubert pocket watches that are labelled "Quartz" have batteries whereas I'd assume the ones that are labelled "Mechanical" are wind-up.

This watch is well made. The crown just spins where it'd normally wind up the internal mechanism. The alarm hand is precise as all the others and can be used for an accurate "beep beep" alarm that comes out the back of the watch. The watch can be stood up by the semi-circular prop on the back. This way you can see the time and here the alarm without it being muffled by the surface you set it on. The instructions say the back can pop off to change the battery. (I was hoping to find a back that could be unscrewed like mechanical watches I've seen.)

I was really hoping to find a wind-up watch with an alarm.... I don't think they exist.

Though I'm returning this pocket watch, it is well made.
